FOCUS/REVIEW QUESTION: Student of the Day!

LEARNING TARGETS:

  • What is public policy and what is government's role in it?
  • Choose a public policy issue you would like to learn more about, take a position on and present to the class.

    • Public Policy Issues - Scroll down to find links about some of the big issues facing government today
    • I Side With... Take a look at some polls that ask people about some of the big issues facing Americans today.

  • THINGS TO DO TODAY...
    • FINISH your Preliminary Research on your topic (see sheet in Google Classroom)
    • Be sure to keep track of your sources in your Annotated Bibliography (Google Classroom)
    • Look up polling data on your topic. How do Americans feel about this?
    • Create your own poll from these to find out your classmates opinions on this topic. - DUE WEDNESDAY.
    • Remember to fill our your Daily Work Journal at the end of the hour logging what you accomplished and what you're working on in the future.

  • WORK ON YOUR POLL QUESTIONS AND ATTACH TO TOPIC SHEET BEFORE CLASS WEDNESDAY!

  • What makes a good poll question?
  • What is public policy and what is government's role in it?
  • Choose a public policy issue you would like to learn more about, take a position on and present to the class.
  • How does American and your classmates feel about your topic?

    • BE DONE with your Preliminary Research on your topic (see sheet in Google Classroom)

    • Look up polling data on your topic. How do Americans feel about this?
    • Work on creating your Poll Questions for your classmates to take: - DUE TOMORROW
      • Have 5 to 7 questions beyond demographics (gender, age, etc…).  Be sure not to ask “loaded” questions.  Think carefully how to ask the question in a way that won’t influence their answer but allows them to answer simply.
      • Type & Share in a Google Form or write out your poll questions for approval from teacher.
    • Remember to fill our your Daily Work Journal at the end of the hour logging what you accomplished and what you're working on in the future.

FOCUS/REVIEW QUESTION: Take the surveys your classmates made for you in our Topics Sheet on Google Classroom.

LEARNING TARGETS:

  • Research the opposing sides of your issue.
  • Describe/Explain your public policy proposal to fix this issue.

AGENDA:

  • Begin work on your Public Policy Planning Outline
    • Research what the different groups are proposing as potential solutions to your public policy issue. Begin to think about what YOU would propose as a solution.
    • Don't forget to be creating an Annotated Bibliography as you find information to use in your presentation.
    • Each Day Complete your Public Policy Daily Work Journal - to show what you've accomplished (Found in Google Classroom)

FOCUS/REVIEW QUESTION: What side are you going to argue for on this public policy issue?

LEARNING TARGETS:

  • Develop a well thought out Public Policy Proposal.
  • Anticipate the opposing arguments to your proposal and think of ways to refute them.
  • Develop a persuasive and effective slideshow to use during your presentation.

AGENDA:

  • Continue completing your Public Policy Outline to help plan out your presentation.
  • Begin to develop a well thought out Public Policy Proposal
    • How do you propose the government goes about dealing with this topic? Find evidence to support your viewpoint.
    • Think of opposing arguments and work on finding ways to show they are wrong.
    • YOU SHOULD HAVE A SPECIFIC PROPOSAL WRITTEN OUT FOR APPROVAL BY TOMORROW'S CLASS.
